FUNDRAISER HELD FOR KANSAS HONOR FLIGHT
Monday, February 20, 2017

If you missed the event, you missed a lot!

The folks at Allmetal Recycling did a fundraiser for KANSAS HONOR FLIGHT 2/20/2017 and had a check presenting program at their business location on E. 21st Street North, Wichita, KS.  The goal for them was to raise $5,000.00 and help do their part to honor Kansas veterans and send more Kansas veterans on the KANSAS HONOR FLIGHT.

The program included many military vehicles that were on static display.  After the American Legion Riders rode in on motorcycles with American flags waving, the excitement started to build.

The program started at 11:00am with the Tornado Alley Young Marines presenting colors, the audience sang "GOD BLESS AMERICA".  After the opening prayer, Wichita Mayor Jeff Longwell made his remarks followed by remarks from the Allmetal Recycling management.  Next on the agenda was the "Fallen Soldier Tribute" preformed by the Tornado Alley Young Marines.  That was a very moving program and well done by the Young Marines.

Then the big surprise.....!
The goal of Allmetal Recycling was to raise $5,000.00 for KANSAS HONOR FLIGHT.  When they brought out a large styrofoam check made out for $5,000.00, they modified the check to read $15,000.00!  The crowd went crazy and my knees felt weak!  $15,000.00 will send 21 Kansas veterans on the KANSAS HONOR FLIGHT.

After the check presentation was done and the applause subsided, we honored all veterans in attendance, by branch of service, for their service to our country.  After honoring all the veterans, Ian Briggs played "AMAZING GRACE" on the bagpipes.  Then we remembered our American veterans who served our country, paid the price for freedom and have been laid to rest with taps being played by Ron Purdie.

After the program was over, FREE food and refreshment was served to all in attendance.

We applaud and salute Allmetal Recycling for being a good example to other businesses.  We invite local businesses to do a fundraiser for KANSAS HONOR FLIGHT and help KANSAS HONOR FLIGHT with it's mission to honor Kansas veterans.

The cost to send one Kansas veteran on the KANSAS HONOR FLIGHT is $700.00.  The veteran pays nothing. This year, we will need about $308,000.00 to send 440 Kansas veterans of World War II, Korean War and the Vietnam War on the KANSAS HONOR FLIGHT, so they can visit their War Memorial that was built for them by a grateful nation.

If you have scrap metal you want to recycle, please take you aluminum cans and other metal items to ALLMETAL RECYCLING, 800 E. 21st Street North, Wichita, KS.  If you take your recycle metal on Wednesdays, and say you want the money to go to KANSAS HONOR FLIGHT, they will add a bonus of two cents a pound to the ticket.  Once a month, Allmetal Recycling gives the funds collected to KANSAS HONOR FLIGHT.

We want to thank everyone that came out to this event.  Also, the American Legion Riders, Tornado Alley Young Marines, bagpiper Ian Briggs and restored military vehicle owners.
